My friend and I are planning a Belgian dark strong brew this weekend but the place he orders his yeast has this as unavailable.

This might not be the right place to ask, but does anyone have any of this yeast? We would like to purchase some if possible. I think we will be brewing 10 gallons.

If anyone has any other suggestions or a recomended substitution, please speak up.

How about Wyeast 1762 Belgian Abbey II? I've got a pack I'll smack up and use that for 5 gallons of a stout I'm brewing Thursday along with pacman for the other 5 gallons.

I'll make you up a starter with some of the pack, and you can pick it up. Are you able to step it up? A big beer is going to need a lot of yeast, and you'll need twice as much for 10 gallons!

I am going to take Brewdude up on his offer. Im still very new to brewing so I dont know what stepping yeast up entails. I probably am not set up to do it at this time if it requires anything special. All I have used thus far is dry yeast packets in my brews.

Brewdude, I sent you an email. Please give me a call.

Thank you both for your help and offers! I really appreciate it Smile I was looking forward to helping brew a big beer and was sad when he told me he couldnt get the yeast.

I dont know the customs for sharing yeast (or brewing in general), but Im sure I can let you try some of the final product if your interested.

I would imagine you still need to make a starter from the yeast he gives you. If doing a big beer, and especially 10 gallons, it will take a lot of yeast!

Turns out, he didnt order the grain because he couldnt get the yeast. I thought he already had the grain and only needed the yeast.

Thank you both for your offers. I might still need to take you up on it in the future if he trys again in a few weeks and its still out of stock.
